Merzouga & the Sahara

The Cinema and Kasbahs Route

We leave Marrakech early and cross the spectacular High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m). First stop at Ait Ben Haddou, the world's most photogenic kasbah and a filming location for Game of Thrones. We continue to Ouarzazate, the "Desert Hollywood", where we visit the film studios. In the afternoon, we descend through the Draa Valley between palm groves and arrive at the Dadès Gorges at sunset.

The Sahara Dunes Await

Morning at the spectacular Todra Gorges (300m high). We continue towards Tinghir and Erfoud, crossing the Ziz Valley lined with palm trees. At 4pm we arrive in Merzouga for your first sight of the Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, we mount camels and ride to the luxury camp in the heart of the desert. Berber dinner, Gnawa music and a starry sky unlike anything you have ever seen.

Sahara Sunrise and Return

We wake before dawn to climb the highest dune and watch the sun rise over the Sahara. A moment that will stay with you forever. We return to the hotel hammam to shower and have breakfast. We visit the Erfoud fossil market and the Berber village of Rissani. Return to Marrakech via a different route, arriving at approximately 10pm.

Arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport. Reception and private transfer to your riad in the heart of the historic Medina. Once settled, free time for a first immersion in the city: the Jemaa el-Fna Square, the labyrinthine souks, the Koutoubia Mosque and the unique atmosphere of the Medina at dusk. Dinner at your leisure (we will recommend the best restaurants).

After breakfast, early departure south, crossing the High Atlas via the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks. First stop at the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Lunch at leisure in Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of the Desert". In the afternoon, descent along the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, skirting the Dadès river through palm groves, adobe kasbahs and ochre landscapes. Arrival at the Dadès Valley at sunset. Traditional Moroccan dinner and accommodation with valley views.

After breakfast, visit to the majestic Todra Gorges, a canyon with vertical walls up to 300 metres high through which a crystal-clear river flows. We continue towards Tinghir, crossing the fossil route to Erfoud, world-famous for its trilobites. In the mid-afternoon, arrival in Merzouga for your first sight of the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, we mount camels and head into the desert to reach the luxury camp before nightfall. Berber dinner by the fire, live Gnawa music and a night beneath a sky of a million stars.

We rise before dawn to climb the highest dune on foot and witness one of the most spectacular sunrises on Earth: the sun painting the Sahara dunes in shades of orange and gold. A moment that will stay with you forever. Back to the camp for breakfast, shower and departure to Marrakech. Along the way, stop in the historic Berber village of Rissani and the Erfoud fossil market. Arrival in Marrakech by late afternoon or evening. Free time for a final stroll through the Medina, souvenir shopping or a relaxing session at a traditional hammam (optional).

Breakfast at the riad. Free morning for last-minute visits: the Majorelle Garden, the Bahia Palace or a final coffee with fresh orange juice at Jemaa el-Fna. Private transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport according to your flight time. End of services. Until next time — Morocco awaits!
